Chrono Cross: A Brief Review (2009-03-28)
Chrono Cross is fairly standard as RPGs go, but what sets it apart as far as gameplay is the elements system. Instead of straight-up 'magic', players gather "elements" which are categorized into six different color groups, each with a counterpart to which it has both stronger and weaker properties- Red and Blue, Yellow and Green, Black and White. This introduces a good level of strategy into the game as players must consider what their opponent is weaker or stronger to.

As stated, the game is fairly standard otherwise, the graphics are pretty good, and the CG cutscenes are amazing for a game out of the '90s (Albeit the late '90s, and the JPEG compression left something to be desired, but still.) I also really loved how well the 3D models were made. If one were to look closely, you could see the edges, but underneither the wonderfully made textures, it's barely noticable. However, what made it more than worth it for me was the plot.

Now, Chrono Cross is the sequel to the 1995 game "Chrono Trigger", and if you're expecting Crono and the gang to team back up, you'll be disappointed. While they and other characters make a brief reappearance, the game is more dependent on it's own characters and setting.

All in all I would say that whether or not you've played Chrono Trigger, Cross is a great game on it's own, though there are a few things you may not understand fully unless you've played through Trigger.

Towards the ending of the game, you'll run into a lot of moments that could cause a temporary moment of "WHOA, COOOOL", or at least, I did. All in all, I say if you enjoy a deep story and a very long game (Took me about 48 hours), get this game.

Awesome Sequel and Awesome Game (2009-03-17)
Whether you are new to the 'Chrono' franchise or returning after playing Chrono Trigger, this game is a great place to go.

Negatives:
-The severe limit on character growth/level-ups makes a lot of battles feel dull and useless; it's not that the system isn't fun, but the imposing limit on status progression cuts the fun down.
-There's a grand total of about one really annoying dungeon/area in this game... Just thought I'd mention it...
-On the sequel note, although I wouldn't have minded terribly if this game had no combined techs at all, it just feels pointless having as few as it does. With so many playable characters there could have been hundreds of combined techs, which would have doubled the fun in trying new characters and party combos. Instead, we get a letdown total of something like ten (not even one for every other character).

Positives:
-Chrono Cross has a stunning sense of environment, with interesting locals, awesome artwork, one of the best soundtracks on the playstation, even a set of cool, dynamic NPCs(very uncommon).
-Plenty of playable characters, and lots of replay value. You could replay the entire game just to use three different characters.
-A strong, meaningful story, with great supporting characters, great references to the previous game and great motion into new territory. The story is one of the strongest points of the game, and is easily one of the most unique that Square has ever produced. It is more linear than Chrono Trigger, in the sense that there is only so much you can do outside the main story, but the story really is good enough to make up for the lack of freedom.
-Great control, gameplay, and plenty of very small features really bringing a magical sense of life to the game. The difficulty level is very satisfying, and there's almost always plenty to do.

Overall: Play it. As its own game and as a sequel, this is one of the best RPGs ever made.

If you liked Chrono Trigger, you're going to love this (2009-03-11)
I bought this game because I enjoyed Chrono Trigger for the DS so I thought, why not get the sequel? For the price it's a really good deal. The game has an interesting story and it is completely non-linear. The choices you make and the party you have in certain circumstances affects the reaction you get from in game characters. Really great game. Interesting battle system.

About the seller (2009-03-03)
I don't have any complain about the game. Mine is about the seller, the case came broken and the second disc is damage.

Be carefull

Without any question, one of the top 5 Greatest Games Of All Time (2009-02-03)
This is up there with Ocarina of Time, FFVII, and a few other such gods of the gaming world as those beautiful games that are the greatest ever made. They don't make 'em like this anymore. All I can say is, play this game. The story will change you forever, the experience will sweep you away. Playing Chrono Cross, hearing that melody of the opening cutscene and seeing and starting playing through that first area....the beach, the little seaside town....is as transcendental an experience today as it was a decade ago. If you never have experienced it, you need to.

Amazon.com Review
More often than not, when a game is in development for more than three years, it does not live up to the hype. Bungie's Halo is the exception. Not only does it meet expectations, it greatly exceeds them. This sci-fi first-person shooter is a nearly perfect blend of gameplay, graphics, and sound.

The story revolves around the conflict between humans and an alien race known as the Covenant. The aliens have discovered a powerful artifact--on the ring-shaped planet called Halo--that will shift the balance of power, and it's up to the player to stop them. In addition to several first-person-shooter levels, the game offers numerous opportunities to engage in vehicular combat. Both the enemy and allied artificial intelligence are extremely impressive. Enemies will use the terrain and layout to put you in tight spots. Allies will know when to cover and aid you. For instance, if you hop into a jeep, an ally will know to jump in and man the turret on the back of it.

The graphics are exquisitely detailed, but only move at 30 frames per second rather than 60. The sound effects and voice acting are superb. The level design is among the best ever; most of the game is engaging and challenging without being frustrating. There's also high replay value thanks to the built-in single-player, cooperative, and deathmatch modes.

Much like the outstanding GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64, Halo raises the bar for console first-person shooters. All console action games will be measured against Halo for years to come. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • Outstanding game design
  • High replay value
  • Impressive AI
Cons:
  • Several maps are used multiple times
  • Save functions could have been better implemented
  • Graphics move at 30 frames per second, not 60

Amazon.com Product Description
This action shooter takes place on a mysterious alien world. It offers a combination of team-based first-person-shooter gameplay (reminiscent of Tribes) and third-person vehicle combat elements. Gameplay kicks off with the player heading down to the planet's surface in a troop carrier, à la Aliens. As the player and fellow marines exit, the remaining troopers form a flank in reaction to an oncoming onslaught of human and alien enemies.

It's this smart AI system that makes for a noticeably unique gameplay feel. Another very nice feature is the seamless transition into vehicular elements. As you venture through mission objectives, a variety of enemy flyers and on-ground buggies are yours for the taking. Come across a vehicle and the camera will pull back to a third-person view as you strap in and motor through crossfire. A co-op mode allows a friend to join you in the single-player missions. For chaotic fighting action, up to four players can duel in split-screen deathmatch mode or link systems for LAN play. However you choose to hero your way through Halo: Combat Evolved, the action should break in your new Xbox in explosive style.

Customer Reviews

Really entertaining! (2009-03-13)
I had this game at first for the computer, and I really liked it, but I only borrowed it from a friend, and didn't have time to finish the main story. Recently, I ordered this game from here, and now, after almost finishing the main story, I have to say, it really is just as fun as any good, new, Xbox 360 game on the market today. The action is still just as real as it was back when it came out. Halo: Combat Evolved is a cannot miss experience for any gamer that is either a fan of first person shooters, or void of any amazingly good classics. In a few years, you'll look back on this review after you've bought this game, and thank me.

A 13 Year Olds Opinion... (2009-03-04)
Halo's a really fun game. You start off as Master Chief who wakes up from being frozen in a tube for a period of time. You have to learn how to move and get your health up and do all the boring stuff... then there's a big crash and these aliens come in and shoot the head off some guy up-stairs, so you run for your life! then the guy in front of you blows up and you're alone for a little while. once you finally get off the ship you fall into Halo and the fun picks up and runs. i played on Normal for the first 4 levels then moved on to Legendary after getting used to the controls, it turns out Legendary is waaay to hard for me, so i just went back to Normal, and eventually Easy. the levels can get boring, but never repetitive.

PROS -Good Story
-Easy Controlls
-Great Graphics for a 2002 Game
-One of The Best Games on XBOX-XBOX 360 in My Opinion

CONS -Halo 2 and 3 Are Better
-Can Get Boring (Level 4 Is)
-Everybody Sounds The Same (there's an australian voice, and alien voice, and the captain's voice... the rest are like an average guy, except for Cortana)

i'd say buy it if you want a great game, but if you're expecting an unbeatable game you MAY get disappointed.

The Best Game for the Xbox (2009-02-04)
Halo: Combat Evolved is an instant classic, bar none. The gameplay is addictive, the graphics are great, the score is incredible, and the story is truly epic. If you are looking for something good in a game, Halo has it.

First off, the single-player campaign is great. The gameplay so much fun that you'll find yourself playing each level over and over. Next, the multiplayer picks up where the campaign leaves off. The customization of each gametype allows for a great deal creativity that is sure to launch many late-night LANs.

The other components (soundtrack, graphics, story) are just as incredible as the rest of the game. If you own an Xbox, your library is not complete without a copy of Halo.

MY FIRST GAME (2009-01-28)
This is the first game that I, Master Chief, ever starred in.

While it's a bit rough around the edges and I've got a new look and more personality, the original "HALO: Combat Evolved" remains one of my favorite projects of all time.

Please take a chance and try my earliest project. I think you'll like it.

Best FPS Xbox has. (2009-01-16)
NOTE:THIS WILL WORK ON 360!
Halo has everything a game should need. Awesome story, responsive controls, great graphics, and an awesome main character who kicks (bad word) and takes names.
STORY:
You are Spartan-117, a lone Spartan(all the others were killed) created for war. You are aboard the marine flagship the Pillar of Autumn. The ship is boardered by the Covenant, a race of aliens bent on the destruction of the human race and Earth. You are awoken from a cyro-chamber and ordered to report to Captain Keyes. He gives you the ship's A.I. and tells you to find an escape pod.The game is picked up from there.
GRAPHICS:
Nothing short of amazing. Detailed environments, detailed weopons, human and Covenant designs, vehicle designs, and cinematic scenes all blow you away.
SOUND:
From the music(which will at least give you goosebumps) to the sound of death and guns everywhere, the sound was phenominally done. Voices are incredible and the death screams for humans and Covenant are both realistic and satisfying. The vehicles sound great as well.
GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay flows realisticly. You can only carry two guns at a time and there is no alt. fire for weapons. You can melee when the Covenant get up in your grill and try to kill you. You can jump, crouch, fly, drive, shoot, run, and blast your way to victory. Each of the 10 levels(except the first)is at least an hour long but the ability to save last checkpoint and exit is a lifesaver. Checkpoints appear frequntly which is good and are placed very well.
Now go out and buy the game for yourself. It won't dissapoint.

Editorial Review
SquareSoft has always had a sure-fire hit when releasing any of their Final Fantasy titles, and Final Fantasy VIII should be no exception. The basis of a good RPG (role-playing game) has always been the story; spectacular graphics are secondary. Final Fantasy VIII's involved and interesting story line is filled with great twists, well-developed characters, suspense, and romance. As an added bonus, the graphics are beautiful. Everything--from the low-lit jazz club to the steam-filled railroad tunnels--is gorgeous and perfectly sets the mood and tone of a scene.

The game mechanics are standard fare for an RPG: acquisition of items and spells, turn-based combat, experience points earned in combat allowing advances in levels. From exploration to battles to dialogue, Final Fantasy VIII has it all. However, Final Fantasy VIII falls to that great weakness of RPGs: random battles. While necessary for advancing in levels, the battles occur with such frequency that they can grow annoying, making for a tedious game experience.

The epic storyline spans four discs--over 40 hours of gameplay--and is based around a mercenary cadet who finds himself caught up with an underground rebel faction. He winds up in a plot to assassinate the sorceress who has just seized power from the president.

You could complain of limited replay value, but this gripe is of no consequence: the game is such a satisfying experience, it doesn't require replay. Final Fantasy VIII is easily worth both the hype and the wait. You can't buy a much better game. --John Cocking

Pros:

  • A story to beat all stories
  • Characters worth caring about
  • Hey--it's from SquareSoft
  • Stunning animations
Cons:
  • Too many random battles
  • Combat is, as always, turn-based and offers minimal excitement
  • Weak souls might give up after two or three discs of play

great game (2009-03-09)
amazing graphics, amazing story; very few bad things can be said about this game. i played this game years ago and it still is in the front of my mind. buy it, you won't regret it.

Great RPG (2009-03-06)
I've been a fan of the Final Fantasy series for years, starting with VII. I now own I, II, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and XII. And of all those, FInal Fantasy VIII has to be my favorite. The plot, including the complex relationships between the characters, is addictive. When I first got it, I used all my free time for several weeks on the game. I'd recommend this game to anyone who is interested in any of the following: RPG's, Final Fantasy, terrific graphics for the 1990's or well designed characters.

Really NICE! (2009-03-05)
It was a great game.
*I loved the story
*the card game was cool
*The summons looked nice (and they made the battle faster)
*Just the right amount of instructions were given
*The graphic (for it's type of game[ps1]) were really good

very intersting (2009-03-04)
all i have to say is that this game was great and i give it 10/10

REALLY REALLY GOOD! (2009-02-25)
I loved this game right off the bat, the first time I played it. It has a really good beginning, awesome music, and graphicx that are a step up from Final Fantasy 7 (tho FF7 was a HUGE step up from the previous games). So here's what I have to say about the game:

--It is a long game. You don't need to do everything, obviously, but 60-70 hours is not an unrealistic expectation

--The story is a little confusing because there's a lot of time-travel talk about people going to the future to stop a sorceress who goes into the past, possesses another person from the characters' present, and... yeah. But it's good. Also it's a good love story if you ask me--it's right up there with the stories of FF9 and FF10.

--You don't use MP. Instead, you "draw" magic (and occasionally summon monsters) from enemies.

--Yes, the summon scenes are long--but that's because the game is giving you the chance to "boost" the monster's attack. (I think you hold Select and rapidly press Square, watch the box in the corner, and stop when there's an x in the box)--but don't quote me on that.

--There are a lot of random battles and they do get a little annoying after awhile.

--The boss fight music is AWESOME! Actually, all the music in this game is awesome. Except sometimes the regular fight music. I've found myself stopping playing the game just to hum along with the music. Not a good strategy for a boss fight, :-P but it seriously is that good.

--The characters are pretty well done; their costumes are neat and not too outrageous, and there's a pretty good level of humor throughout the story too, even during the end scenes. So if you have never played this game, I seriously suggest you give it a try. Thank you for reading this.

Perfect for new TVs (2008-12-30)
I bought this with my Nintendo 64 and it is excellent. It connects the system to the TV just like a Playstation 2 or Xbox. Perfect for new TVs in my opinion.

Cable review (2008-11-22)
It's a good sturdy cable but the plugs are a little loose when you plug them in. All in all I am satisfied.

Awesome service! (2008-08-01)
Fantastic price for a much needed item... also quick and dependable service... I would DEFINITELY use this seller again!

Put it in the RIGHT hole (2008-06-25)
This cable works amazing wonders. It's a lot smaller than the cable that comes with the N64, but this is generally a mood thing, as some keep their N64s a distance away from the TV, etc. but me and my brothers think that it's a wonderful cord and it works for cheap. Just on thing to keep in mind, though:

PUT THE RIGHT COLOR CORD IN THE RIGHT COLOR HOLE

I know that it was a stupid mistake, but we almost thought our N64 was broken or our cables were bad.

Highly recommended, great seller too.

I found it (2008-05-16)
My son's N64 av cable was broken weeks ago. I search around on Amazona and I found that this cable is much cheaper than in retail stores. I would buy another one as a spare.

Great Product (2009-02-24)
This is a standard memory unit used to store saved gamecube games, it is the prefect size for people who don't have a massive gamecube game libary. It is fully compatable with the use with the nintendo wii

Warning: Will not be able to read Wii saved games, nor will you be able to save wii games to it, it is used to save Nintendo Gamecube savefiles!

Great Deal (2008-09-10)
