Blu-ray DVD Player - How Do I Get This Best Video And Audio?

Blu-ray Players are all about getting stunningly, crisp and sharp images and great Superior Surround Sound for your movies. Nothing can rival the quality you get from playing a Blu-ray Disc. Streaming HD movies online maybe convenient, but they do not come close to the high quality images and sounds you get from a Blu-ray.

To obtain the absolutely best possible images from your player you need a HDTV and a HDMI cable which can support all the signals transferred from the player. The HDTV should be capable of Full HD 1080p resolution. Having a HDTV with 12-bit (color depth) display will produce better color gradations. The HDTV should also be capable of handling movies at 24 fps (Frames Per Second). This is important, especially when watching Blu-ray Discs that were originally Motion Pictures displayed on the a big theater screen.

Getting a High Speed HDMI cable is the second thing you need to get the best possible picture. High speed HDMI cable will ensure the correct transfer of all the video signals. Monster HDMI Cables will definitely support any video signals and give you the best quality. However, any HDMI High Speed cable should be sufficient for most everyday user. It will produce the desired results and should not cause any problems with quality.

The actually video signals being sent from your player depends on how you setup your player. (And the content your using of course) Setting up your player to get the optimal visuals, is a step sometimes forgotten. Just using a HDMI cable to communicate between your HDTV and player is not enough. You should switch on all available video features on your Blu-ray and HDTV to get the best picture. You need to select 1080p resolution for Blu-ray Discs and for up-scaling standard DVDs. 1080p/24 Hz should also be selected on your player and HDTV, as well as selecting 4:4:4 color space for Deep Color.

Getting stunning visual is just half the battle. Adding lossless surround sound adds a whole other element to your movies. Dolby® Digital True-HD and DTS®-HD Master Audio are two lossless audio formats and one of them should be selected when playing back Blu-ray Discs. Dolby® Digital True-HD and DTS®-HD Master Audio are High Definition multi-channel audio formats producing sound exactly as the original movie studios and sound engineers intended.

Setting up your player to default to one of these audio formats is the best way to go. If your Audio/Video receiver is capable of decoding these formats, you can take advantage of this and have the audio signal transferred via the HDMI cable. Blu-ray Players are capable of up to 7.1-ch surround sound. If your Audio/Video receiver does not have a HDMI input, most Blu-ray Players will have a 2.0-ch analog outputs. Some players even have 7.1-ch analog outputs for you to transfer the uncompressed sound to be decoded by you Audio/Video receiver. Making sure you can enjoy the best possible sound quality.

DMP-BDT100 - A Quick Overview of New "Cheaper" Panasonic 3D Blu-Ray Player

Panasonic came out with two new 3D Blu-ray Players in 2010, the DMP-BDT300 ($399.00) and the DMP-BDT350 ($429.99). While these are great 3D Blu-ray Players, Panasonic has released yet another new 3D capable Blu-ray Player, the DMP-BDT100. Listed at $249.95, the player, is a nice alternative to the higher priced 3D Blu-ray Players. While being a step down from the higher end models, the DMP-BDT100 still has a good combination of functions and features. Including excellent features that bring you great quality in both audio and visuals.

The 3D player has a smart, sleek looking design made up of a black finish and a silver strip running through the middle of the player. It does have a flap on the front of the panel that when lowered reveals a USB Port, SD Card Slot and some control buttons. This flap of course has to remain open when using the USB Port. The overall design is reminiscent of most Panasonic players, with the exception of the 3D Full HD logo located on the front.

VIDEO QUALITY: The DMP-BDT100 has the standard video connections of HDMI, Component Outputs and Composite Outputs. Unfortunately, unlike the higher end players, the DMP-BDT100 does not have dual HDMI 1.4 outputs, only a single. With a second HDMI output you can send the 3D video signal straight to your 3D TV via the HDMI 1.4 output and send your audio to your Audio/Video receiver via the HDMI 1.3 output.

While lacking this feature, the DMP-BDT100 single HDMI Output still handles both 1080p/24 and 1080p/60 video output resolutions. Like other Panasonic players, the DMP-BDT100 uses PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. This helps to greatly improve the color accuracy of your images. There is also the new P4HD Enhanced Full HD Upsampling. Taking standard DVDs and displaying them to near High Definition quality. Along with these features you have a few preset picture modes, user defined settings and some noise reduction modes, all design to give you the kind of image you want.

AUDIO QUALITY:Audio connections for the DMP-BDT100 include HDMI, optical Digital and 2.0-channel Analog Outputs. If you are looking for 7.1-channel Analog outputs, you will find them in the two higher end players, DMP-BDT300 and DMP-BDT350. The only way to produce the highest quality 7.1-ch surround sound is via HDMI. There is on board decoding for the high resolution audio formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It can pass these audio formats in their native bitstream form over a HDMI connection to your Audio/Video receiver, if you want them decoded externally. The player is not without its audio adjustment; there is dialog enhancement and you can choose various sound effect modes such as Night Surround or Re-master 1, 2, and 3.

BD, DVD, CD audio, AVCHD, Divx Plus HD, MKV, MP3 and JPEG playback are all supported by the DMP-BDT100. Playback of media files can be done through the SD Card slot or USB port. The USB port, located on the front panel, can also be used to connect a wireless LAN adapter for easy connection to the internet. There is an Ethernet Port located on the rear of the player if you choose a wired connection. But once connected to your Home Network you can access Online Streaming Services, DLNA media devices and BD-Live content.

However, when accessing BD-Live content you require at least 1GB of external storage memory from either a SD Card or USB flash drive. The DMP-BDT100 is lacking internal storage memory. It does have a sufficient Online Streaming Media Service in VIERA Cast. Giving you access to Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix, YouTube™, Dailymotion, Bloomberg, Picasa™ and other Internet web sites.

The 3D player is DLNA certified as well. But it will only playback media store on a networked Panasonic recorder. Video, music and Photos from your PC can not be accessed. On a more positive side, the DMP-BDT100 has a 0.5 Second Quick Start mode for very fast booting. Over all the DMP-BDT100 offers you a great alternative to the more pricey Panasonic 3D Blu-ray Players. You may lack some features, but the DMP-BDT100 3D Blu-ray Player should provide you with a very pleasant Blu-ray experience.

THE PROS: The Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray Player supports Full HD 3D Playback, as well as 1080p/24 playback of 2D Blu-ray Discs. It has great audio, providing you with internal audio decoding and bitstream output for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. It also has support for Wi-Fi, BD-Live, VIERA Cast (Online Streaming) and DLNA streaming (Only from Panasonic Recorders).

THE CONS: The Blu-ray Player lacks the dual HTMI Outputs that will transmit two separate signals to your 3DTV and A/V receiver. It has no multi-channel analog audio outputs. Wi-Fi requires a USB LAN adapter that is sold separately. The player has no internal memory, so an external device such as a SD Card or USB flash drive is needed for accessing BD-Live content. DLNA streaming is limited.

THE FINAL WORD: The Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray Player provides great HD audio and image quality. It has many great Blu-ray functions and features such as VIERA Cast, Wi-Fi 'Ready', BD-Live and of course 3D capability. The DMP-BDT-100 is considerably less expensive than Panasonic's other 3D Blu-ray Players. (Keep in mind if you want to go wireless, you have to purchase a LAN adapter that will cost around $80.00) This should appeal to many consumers wanting to enjoy 3D images at home. -- Price you should look for when purchasing -- Under $250.00

The big difference between the two players is that the BD-C5900 has 3D Blu-ray capability. It also is Wi-Fi 'Ready', BD-Live 'Ready', and is DLNA certified. Supports online media services: Internet-TV/Samsung Apps(provides content from Netflix, Pandora, Vudu, Blockbuster, Picasa and Twitter). Pioneer Releases the First Ever 12x Blu-ray Drives - BDR-205

Blu-ray technology has, without doubt, revolutionized the way we experience movies and games. With its high-power definitions, storage, and quality of video, it has left viewers spellbound and dumbstruck. Although it was thought that this technology would never become affordable, with the advent of Blu-ray enabled PS3s all over the globe, and simultaneous innovations in the field, Blu-ray is now within reach for most tech-loving people.

Where there is a new disc type, there has to be a new disc writer. Pioneer has now come out with the BDR-205. This Blu-ray Disc Computer Writer is supposed to be the fastest around - with its 12x speed capacities leaving the older 8x versions far behind.

With this new release, Pioneer has leaped forward in the market of computer hardware, and has also made a landmark contribution to computer technology in general. Steve Cohn at the Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. (he is the director of the Optical Sales Dept.) has this to say:

"The BDR-205 drive represents our ongoing efforts to combine Pioneer's engineering expertise with advanced technologies, and our next generation Blu-ray Disc writer is a great example of our no-compromise approach to optical disc product development. We are bringing to market the fastest Blu-ray Disc writer to date, and it is just one of the many 'firsts' that have come to define Pioneer's 30-year heritage in optical disc innovation and leadership."

Technical specifications for the BDR-205 12x Blu-ray Burner include:

  • Up to 12x writing speed on BD-R & BD-R DL media

  • Write up to 50Gbytes on one BD-R DL disc (equal to 10 single layer DVDs)

  • Serial ATA (SATA) Interface

Short, sweet and packs a power punch with the "50GB write limit" criteria! In fact, with the BDR-205, Pioneer has unleashed a new high in terms of our limits of storing and writing on portable discs. Considering that HD movies and games need a huge amount of information to look and sound good, this piece of engineering will make HD-movies more common than ever before. Moreover, the BDR-205 is equipped with a low vibration mechanism (LVM) - a design that is primed to maintain a high write accuracy so that people who need to write huge amounts of sensitive and critical data on Blu-ray discs can rely on the BDR-205 not to let them down.

And it's not just the movies, the BDR-205 will be useful to anyone who needs a heavy-duty portable disc, and needs to write data on it - fast. This writer drive will be soon be the norm on all desktops in institutions and corporates first, and will then slowly work its way to home PCs within a few years.

HD movies consist of a lot of data; with any new feature film, there are going to be tens of gigabytes of video, sound, and system information. If you're a computer builder, or if you are planning on purchasing the drive yourself, keep in mind that you could really use a spacious hard drive to compliment the BDR-205 burner. Although 12x is an amazing speed for reading and writing Blu-ray disks, the drive is also able to process DVD's at a speed of 16x and a solid 40x when processing media CDs.

Pioneer stayed true to its name with the new BDR-205 model; it's the first and the fastest Blu-ray drive of its kind. The future is here - right now - with the BDR-205. It is the most silent of all drives around - something that is surprising, as you would wonder if it's really writing 50GB worth of data so fast and so quietly. Moreover, note that this drive not only has the fastest write speeds, it also reads just as fast - ranging from a 40x reading speed for a CD to a 8x read speed for a Blu-ray disc. Overall, this drive is a must have for those who want to be at the cutting edge of technology, as well as those who need to work with obscene data sizes.

Pioneer is sure to bring on other new innovations similar to this new unit. The BDR-205 will lead the way for other new "super" drives like it, that will revolutionize technology right before our eyes.

How to Choose the Best Blu-Ray Player

The battle of HD media is finally over. Blu-Ray got a few breaks here or there, but at the end of the day it was able to defeat HD-DVD for the high definition market dominance. If you have never owned a blu-ray disc, you don't know what you are missing. The quality is much higher that most people expect before trying their first blu-disk. And if you have a decent HDTV, you are going to find it difficult going back to standard-definition media after trying bluray movies.

Choosing a blu-player is not as easy as it used to be a few months ago. There are too many options to choose from, and since we are talking about devices that are very similar in picture quality, you should do your due diligence to find the player that is right for you.

If you are looking for a good blu-ray player, you should take the following factors into account:

  • Resolution: most of these players have a resolution of 1080p. Don't settle for anything less.

  • Bonus View: also called a form of PIP and is a must have if you want get the whole high-def experience on your TV.

  • Network: being able to connect to the Internet and get content from YouTube and Netflix is a big plus.

  • BD Live support: BD Live brings interactivity to the content you buy. Make sure your system supports it.

  • Internal storage: if you are getting an Internet ready device, make sure you have a place to store the content.

Some folks prefer their device to support multiple disks and read HD-DVDs as well. There are many fancy models on the market, but as long as you can afford expensive models, the sky's the limit on the features you can get with these gadgets. One things is for certain though. Once you go blu, you are never going to want to go back again.

We have gathered and ranked best blu-ray players on BluCrunch.com. Whether you are looking for a YouTube blu-player or just want to check the latest blu-ray player ratings, you can get it all on Blu Crunch

As 3D technology is capturing the imaginations of movie viewers all over the world, Samsung's is introducing us to try this experience from the comfort of our own living rooms. Part of its goal to bring the wonder of 3D home is it's BD-C6900 Blu-ray Player. One of the first players with 3D Blu-ray playback capability; Samsung is hoping it will make a good impression with home movie viewers.

Samsung is known for making some of the most unique looking Blu-ray Players. The BD-C6900 is no exception. The ultra sleek and glossy design makes the player look very modernized and High Tech. Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray Player Review

Sony is the major manufacturer and pioneer of Blu-ray technology so we would expect their players to be absolutely cutting edge when it comes to the design, performance, and the features on the player. Therefore it was slightly surprising when the previous model, the BDP-S350 lacked a few of the major features that made Blu-ray so appealing.

Firstly, there was no out of the box for the BD-LIVE (Profile 2) Blu-ray profile. Although later available as a firmware update, early buyers of the player had to make do with Profile 1.1. This meant that the ability to download exclusive content and extras was not possible - bearing in mind this was one of the big selling points of Blu-ray, it was a bit of an oversight. The second feature missing was the ability to decode DTS-HD Master audio. Whilst High Definition video is the primary selling point of Blu-ray, many home cinema owner and enthusiasts are also looking to get the most out of their sound system and so high definition audio is a must, so it was again slightly strange that this feature was missing.

The lack of these features though did not stop the 350 selling in huge numbers, and it became one of the best selling Blu-ray player around, very quickly. The new Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player looks set to continue this amazing sales trend, and thankfully resolves the shortcomings of the previous model.

The design of the Sony BDP-S360 is much improved - it looks more like an established player now with its sleek black lines rather than the slightly cheap looking blue finish of the previous version. Even the remote manages to look better, and in typical Sony style, is very well laid out. The remote does not have an eject button which is unusual these days, but it certainly doesn't bother me.

The connection on the player do not bring up any surprises and all the sockets you need are all present - a single HDMI output, component video, and digital coaxial and optical for the sound if you need them. The rear also features a USB socket so you can plug in a USB memory stick to store any BD-LIVE downloaded content. In order to do this you will need to connect a network cable to the ethernet port on the rear - this will also enable you to download firmware updates in the future. There is no wireless option with the BDP-S360 unfortunately, although Sony have confirmed that models higher up the range will have this on board.

Blu-ray performance is as good as you would expect, and the "x.v.Color(TM)" system that Sony have included does a good job of ensuring that colours are more natural looking and vivid rather than being too garish as we saw with some older Blu-ray players.

Overall, I'm very pleased that Sony has finally bought out the player with the features that everyone was expecting, and the BDP-S360 Blu-ray player is a welcome improvement over the previous model and will grace anyone's home cinema!

HDTVs and BluRay Players

Blu-ray players are designed to work on any television which, whether the TV is high definition capable or not, has component inputs. However, using a Blu-ray DVD player with a HDTV via the HDMI or video inputs will enable you to ensure that you have a full HDTV viewing experience.

Even though inputs can be made with any television with at least composite video inputs, in order to get a true HD Blu-ray resolution(1080/24p) you really need to use 1080p HDTV. HDMI means High Definition Multimedia Interface and has become the new technology standard for transferring uncompressed digital data from a DVD player to the television.

One factor which is delaying the roll out of HDMI capable entertainment technology is the price of the cables. They are general more expensive than standard television and blu-ray player cables. However, if you haggle you can get them included in a full HD television and blu-ray player package. First, it is important to understand the difference between a HDTV (High Definition TV) and a HD Ready television.

There is only essential one key difference. If the television has a built-in digital tuner it is HDTV. If the television does not include a built-in tuner then the TV is HD Ready. Therefore, a television sold as HD Ready, it means the TV does not include a built-in tuner which is capable of receiving an over the air signal via an antenna.

To resolve this issue, you will need a HD cable and a box from cable television provider in order to receive a high definition picture quality. However, because the blu-ray player transmits in high definition then you will receive a HD picture quality regardless of whether the television is HD or HD ready.

The latest blu-ray players available on the market have a 1080/24 p output. This has resulted in television manufacturers investing vast sums of money in manufacturing LCD and plasma televisions which can support a 1080/24p signal.

3D Blu-Ray System

The modern age of today that we are living in is extremely fast. The credit of this contemporary era goes to the rapid advancement of technology. Every morning, we wake up to the introduction of latest and high end technologies in almost each and every field by different companies. The rising competition among these companies in introducing their products is becoming worse day by day. Each of them wants to attain the first place or the highest position in the fight of being the leader of the latest technology and therefore want to prove his technology as the best one or incomparable in the market.

TD Vision, since 2001, has been trying to integrate 3D into the hi-definition setups of home cinema. Recently, TDV Codec has shown the possibility to view normal Blu-ray disc in 3D. The latest setup of hi-def cinema at the LA based Society for Information Display (SID) 2008 has been introduced by the 3D technology company and TD Vision Systems. According to them, the TDV Codec can run the 'HD - 3D compatible existing 2D infrastructure systems that have the similar Blu - ray disc' very easily. This means that a 3D Blu - ray disc can be used on any non 3D Blu - ray player. The best part about this whole scenario is that this will not even have any impact on the resolution, quality and color of the movie or picture.

The press release waffle stated that people now have the convenience of even enjoying their 3D experience in their homes, just by the adding the TDV Ready decoder in the Blu - ray setup. The 3D system even works with televisions in the 3D DLP chips format. Mitsubishi and Samsung are the two world leaders in the field of TV manufacturing, which make use of these high end chips in their televisions. Mitsubishi is working on a Blu-ray player which converts the 2D images into a 3D view, on the fly. The price and date of release of the decoder by TD Vision systems has not been announced yet.

TDV Codec is considered to be one of the best and the only ways of deploying HD 3D with absolutely no loss in the resolution, frame rate, quality and color of the picture. TD Vision has undoubtedly succeeded in creating an exclusive, first class and preeminent codec, which would help in providing complete 100% 1080p per eye as close as possible to the content which was originally there.

The introduction of this technology is very beneficial and best suited especially for those who want to view 3D Blu - rays without really making any expensive changes to their HD setup. The Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus (the best concert tour of both the worlds) is now released by 3D Blu ray. Recently, even Hollywood film makers have shown interest in making 3D films. James Cameron, a recognized director is working on a 3D movie called Avatar, which is scheduled to release on the 18th of December, 2009.

Enhanced Technology and Features of Blu-Ray Disk Technology

Blu-ray disk format utilizes two video compression codecs for recording full length HD movie. One recording format is VC-1. This recording codec was co-developed by Microsoft. VC-1 is the variation of the Microsoft's Windows media codec. Higher compression is offered by VC-1 codec and the signal loss during the process of encoding/decoding has been minimized. The other recording codec used by Bluray disk format is advanced video coding (AVC). It is an enhanced form of MPEG-4. The DVD disk format uses the MPEG-2 compression codec. MPEG-4 codec used by Blu-ray disc technology is more efficient than its predecessor MPEG-2. Bluray disk technology offers superior and exceptional quality of audio/video at lower bit-rates that the DVD disc format. The HD quality offered by Blu-ray media disks exceeds the users' expectations. Both these recording codecs offer more flexibility to the studios for recording their Bluray media disks. When the pre-existing DVD released bonus features are ported to the Blu-ray disk format, then they are recorded in the MPEG-2 codec. The Bluray disk players are very useful as they can also play the DVD media disks thus providing additional benefit to the users.

Bluray disk players also perform the up-gradation of the 480p DVD standard to the quasi high definition levels and then up to resolution of 1080p. That is how a Blu-ray player enhances the resolution and quality of DVD. Blu-ray disk format supports the latest HD audio codecs. The combination of advanced A/V receivers, decoding power and massive storage capacity of Bluray technology ensure such high quality. The other two competing codecs Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio have the capability to reproduce 7.1 discrete audio channels with increased dynamic range and accuracy ever before achieved in home. In order to shrink the storage requirements and bandwidth, these codes use compression. As a result of this compression, the soundtracks produced are the original PDM master tapes' bit perfect copies.

Interactivity has been improved in the Blu-ray disk technology. BD-Live is also supported by the BD-ROM Profile 2.0. Its features can be updated through the internet. The Profile 1.1 players require WiFi connection or Ethernet port for fast speed internet connectivity. That is why most of the profile 1.1 Bluray disk players will not support the profile 2.0. The players need to temporarily store at least 1-GB of varying data amount. Use of SD memory card of USB flash drive can do the trick. The latest Bluray disk players fully support BD-ROM 2.0 Profile. These Blu-ray players also have network ports that help the users in enabling new features and fixing bugs. Java software is an essential component of the Blu-ray specification that assists in interactivity and elaborates the popup disk menus. On the other hand in DVD format, the animated menus are pre-rendered. The top games of new generation also benefit from the highly reliable BD-Java technology. The outer layer of the high capacity Blu-ray media disk is more durable and harder that protects the surface from scratches and dust particles thus resulting in a more efficient and reliable media disk technology.

Bluray DVD disk is also known as BD. Blu-ray disk format was developed in order to enable rewriting, recording, and playback of high-definition video HDV. Bluray recordable DVD disc can hold large amounts of data.

Choose HDMI Over Component Video For Your HDTV and Blu-Ray Player

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is state-of-the-art connection technology, allowing uncompressed sound and video signals to transfer from your source equipment directly to your high definition television (HDTV). Instead of a bunch of tangled-up connections like you have with DVI or with component video (those red/green/blue jacks), HDMI completes your audio and your video transfers using just one small jack.

So how does this all affect you, as the buyer of all of this complicated technology? What this means is that you will only need to purchase one cable, not several as you did in the past, to connect your HDMI source equipment (like a Blu-ray disk player, Xbox 360, Wii, HD cable or satellite box, new A/V surround receiver, etc.) to your HD television.

It could not be any easier. Your video resolution will be an astounding 1080p, and you will also experience uncompressed discrete surround audio that is unbeatable. But some people will state, "The component video cable device I have now appears to work alright with my new HDTV." And, the fact is that, most of the time, this is the truth. However you won't be able to use your component video cable for joining together a Blu-ray player with a new HDTV and get all that the new HD medium will give you. On a television that is larger than fifty inches, switching over to Blu-ray and going up to 1080p is just like getting your windows washed. Yes, you can see through them adequately now, but when they are really clean you can see a huge difference.

Another reason to use HDMI connections is their compatibility with the new A/V digital surround receivers. It is possible to get Dolby TrueHD as well as DTS-HD Master Audio tracks through HDMI. Your Toslink optical and coaxial digital cables could never accomplish this, and you will be amazed by how much better it is than your regular DVD surround soundtrack. Everything pans throughout your 5.1 or 7.1 theater, immersing you in the audio-visual experience in a fully controlled manner. You can see how different it is from the moment that you begin.

Now you can understand how HDMI can make your connections so much easier, letting you get rid of the tangled web of wires behind your entertainment center and giving you a video and audio quality that is absolutely fantastic when you use your new 1080p television, projector, or Blu-ray disc player.

When Vic Metten needs HDMI cable, he goes to Best Deal Cables, because they carry DVI cables, 1080p HDMI cables, and component video cables all at reasonable prices. Also, their HDMI cables have unique clips that keep them secure while they are attached to equipment. So, for superior picture clarity and quality, choose the best HDMI cables.

Before You Buy, Check a Blu-ray Quality Comparison

Do you know why it's important to consider a Blu-ray quality comparison before you head out and shop for your Blu-ray player? It's easy to think that all Blu-ray players are alike but in reality this just isn't true. While the technology may be the same and they all work in the same way, there are some differences between them that you might want to consider. And some machines come with other options and features that might make them a better choice for you.

For instance, the PlayStation 3 is a Blu-ray player as well as having a built-in Wii. You can also browse the internet through this device. That means that if you want to play Wii games or PlayStation games or watch a movie in high def, this is the machine for you! With all these features standard it can become your true home theater component, whatever you're planning on using it for. As a matter of fact, some have said their only complaint is that they can't get the family away from it.

Of course there are other players on the market and you need to make your own decision about what works best for you. If you just watch the occasional movie but want it in high def, then a basic model may be for you. However you want to be sure that you're still getting your money's worth! The last thing you want to do is buy some knockoff or poor quality machine and wind up having to replace it after a few months. So do your research and keep in mind your own particular needs, and your Blu-ray quality comparison will save you money in the long run.
